    why stishovite because denser/ compact why? due to high pressure Among all polymorph of quartz stishovite phase can be stable at high pressure so possess maximum specific gravity or density.

    Stishovite is the highest pressure polymorph of silica. It possesses the rutile structure with a density of of 4.28 g/cm3. Please see the attached figure for the specific gravity data of all polymorphs of quartz.
