    1) Aristotle belongs to schools of Socrates and Plato. Like his teachers he also disagrees with Sophists views on the state. For Sophist state is artificial. State is not necessary. State represents interest of strong. Aristotle contradicts this view, he held that state inherent in the needs of man. Nature has not made man self-sufficient, man has various needs. Man cannot fulfill all of his needs on his own. Hence man is to be dependent on the institutions like family, village and state.
    2) Thus, Aristotle establishes hierarchy of needs and hierarchy of institutions. Family as an institution serves basic needs. Man goes out of family from village to fulfill social needs, village cannot fulfill all of its needs and for that he creates states. Thus, it is natural for man to be a member of a political community. He goes to the extent of saying that who can live without state can be either beast or god. He needs superhuman qualities to live without state. Thus, for a complete life for complete actualization of one's potentialities man need state chronologically. Man is prior to state, but logically state is prior to man.
