    in licl and becl2 although li has small size than be then also it is ionic because there are 2 big chlorine atoms in becl2 in which there is more distortion m right?

    For d block element outer orbital is d orbital which has poor shielding effect meaning effect of nucleus will be more outer eletron which will result in overlapping of orbital (eletron cloud) thus leading covalent character

    This covalency will increase with the increase in the oxidation state.On increasing oxidation state of a cation it's size decreases and hence its polarizing power increases.

    eduncle-logo-app

    Polarizing power = z/r where { z = charge on cation and r = radius}

    According to Fajan's rule smaller is the size of cation greater will be its polarizing power and hence greater will be its covalent character. Therefore on increasing oxidation state covalent character increases and ionic character decreases.

    Sweta did you understand

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes sir , ionic character is just opposite of covalent character n

    eduncle-logo-app

    Why we are talking about d block here ? since d block is metal but it does covalent character more than that what S block shows for above mentioned reason

    eduncle-logo-app

    so ionic is Just attraction and covalent is sharing (overlapping of orbital)

    Now anything else Sweta

    plz fazans rule is only for telling ionic character or covalent character but not about nature of bond is it right

    eduncle-logo-app

    Yes you are right .fazan rule just qualitatively tell us nature of bond
