Why do ketones and acetals give negative test for tollens reagent? Please explain the reason in detail.

    The test rests on the premise that aldehydes are more readily oxidized compared with ketones; this is due to the carbonyl-containing carbon in aldehydes having an attached hydrogen. The diamminesilver(I) complex convert aldehydes into respective Carboxylic acids and solid silver(which names the test as silver mirror) . As absence of hydrogen in ketone does not let the complex react and no silver mirror test is observed
