Opal is by far sited as one substance which is partly crystalline. That's why it's pronounced as mineraloid...that directly doesn't mean it's a mineral because for being a mineral solid, naturally occurring, homogeneous, crystalline substance is passed ....in local term opal may be crystalline but it's not actually. other mineraloid is not at all crystalline.

Precious opal displays play-of-color (iridescence), common opal does not.Play-of-color is defined as "a pseudo chromatic optical effect resulting in flashes of colored light from certain minerals, as they are turned in white light."The internal structure of precious opal causes it to diffract light, resulting in play-of-color. precious opal does have some internal structural arrangements. so it's mineraloid .
