    In slowly cooled intrusive igneous rocks, pigeonite is rarely preserved. Slow cooling gives the calcium the necessary time to separate itself from the structure to form exsolution lamellae of calcic clinopyroxene, Pigeonite. Low-calcium pyroxene (often abbreviated as LCP) is an important term in petrology for pyroxene low in Ca and high in Mg and Fe.

    Pigeonite is called as low Ca clinopyroxene because it contains very low Ca and high Fe-Mg in it's structure. Augite contains relatively higher Ca than pigeonite. In the attached figure below, you can see that pigeonite is very away from tha Ca apex of triangle i.e. poor in Ca and hence pigeonite is considered as low Ca clinopyroxene.
