Why quartz is a silicate not an oxide?

    quartz is both sillicate and oxide.

    No but sometimes there are questions asking how many minerals in the mohs scale are silicates. Then what are we supposed to answer?

    if it's asking about sillicates then include quartz ...but if it's asking oxide then add quartz too. but asking both then quartz is more prioritise to SIllicate.
