Here lies the concept of K.C.P(Kinetically Controlled Product) &T.C.P(Thermodynamically controlled product). A reactant while undergoing a reaction may proceed through intermediates.Products are possible from both the intermediates(stable as well as unstable one).

When the intermediate is more stable it forms a stable products thermodynamically. This leads to major product formation. But when a product is formed by unstable compound (intermediate) are usually formed by kinetically which leads to formation of several by products as well. This leads to minor amounts.
