UGC NET Exam is organized by NTA for students who want to pursue their career in the field of research or lectureship. As per the latest notification by NTA, the exam for 2020 is scheduled from 24th September 2020 onwards.

The aim of NTA by conducting the National Eligibility Test is to select the students who have the right knowledge and qualification for the position of lecturers/professors/associates/research fellow in the most reputed universities and colleges of India.

NTA has certain rules and regulations, like UGC NET Eligibility, that are being followed by the officials to find the right candidates.

As per required UGC NET 2020 education qualification, candidates possessing a post-graduate degree with 55% marks are eligible to apply for the exam. Candidates should not be more than 30 years in age for JRF but there is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

 

The UGC NET Eligibility 2020 for JRF and assistant professor include some standard factors such as age limit and educational qualification. The official authority has released the important guidelines for these criteria; if you wish to reach your goals then you are required to satisfy these criteria for the UGC NET exam. The following are the details of the required educational qualification and age limit.

UGC NET Educational Qualification

 

The UGC eligibility for assistant professor and JRF includes the educational qualification that you are required to fulfill in order to appear for the UGC NET Exam are:

55% aggregate marks (without rounding off) in master’s degree or equivalent degree from universities/institutions recognised by UGC for all 81 subjects - for General/General EWS category candidates

50% aggregate marks (without rounding off) in master’s degree or equivalent degree for all 81 subjects - for ST/SC/OBC/ PWD/Transgender candidates

PhD degree holders who have completed their master’s examination on or before 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks for appearing in NET.

 

 

Important Note – 

 

If you are pursuing a master’s degree or equivalent exam or you have appeared for the final year exam of PG degree, but in case the results are awaited, you can still apply for the UGC NET Exam.

However, you will be considered for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship only when you pass the master’s degree with the required percentage within 3 years of UGC NET Result declaration, otherwise, you will be exempted from it.

If you have completed your post-graduate degree/diploma/certificate from a foreign university/institute then you should ascertain the equivalence of the diploma/degree/certificate with a degree from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in New Delhi.

Important Instructions

 

For Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates –

According to the NTA, candidates with the EWS category are issued EWS certificates by the competent authority. This action had been taken regarding the implementation of reservation for admission in Central Educational Institutions.

Candidates are required to mention their category in the form (they don’t have to upload the EWS category certificate, but they are required to bring it at the time of admission/appointment.)

 

For PwD Category Candidates -

A scribe will be identified by the Centre Superintendent as per the request received from the candidate. He/she would be allowed to meet the scribe a day before the examination to verify the suitability.

 

For All Category Candidates -

Candidates are neither required to send any certificate/document in support of their eligibility nor printout of their UGC NET Application Form (confirmation page) to the NTA. However, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the test.

Note – however, if any ineligibility is detected by the UGC/NTA at any stage, the candidature of the student will be cancelled, and they shall be liable for legal actions.

You can apply for the NTA NET Exam only for the subject in which you have completed your master’s degree/equivalent. Exemption for Assistant Professor

 

For NET/SLET/SET Candidates

NET/SET/SLET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of assistant professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. In this regard, exemption from NET/SET/SLET will be governed by UGC regulations and amendments notified in the Gazette of India from time to time.

The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR/JRF examination before 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.

 

 

For SET Candidates

The candidates, who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for assistant professor held prior to 1st December 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET for assistant professor anywhere in India.

For SET held from 1st December 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of assistant professor only in the universities/colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

 

 

NTA NET Age Limit Criteria

Solution – Candidates who secured minimum 55% aggregate marks in master’s degree or an equivalent examination can appear in the UGC NET exam.

 

Question - What is the age limit/relaxation criteria for candidates appearing in UGC-NET 2020?

Solution – There is no age limit for the post of Assistant Professor in NTA NET. But if you are applying for JRF, then the maximum age limit is 30 years.

 

Question - Is there any exemption available for the eligibility for the assistant professor?

Solution – Qualifying in NET/SET/LSET is the minimum eligibility condition to be appointed as an assistant professor. Officials will notify you in regard to the exemption of these exams that will be governed by UGC Regulations.

Candidates who have qualified the UGC NET Exam before 1989 are exempted from appearing in NET.

 

Question - Am I eligible for UGC NET Exam after PGDM/PGDMB Degree?

Solution – Yes, you can apply for the UGC NET exam after PGDM/PGDMB.

 

Question - Am I eligible for UGC NET Exam after CA/CS?

Solution – No, UGC NET doesn’t allow CA/CS students to apply the exam.
