SSC CHSL Post Details - Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant
In SSC CHSL Exam, the post of the assistant is divided into two categories.
Postal Assistant (PA)
Sorting Assistant (SA)
Postal Assistants are posted in various post offices, which may be situated in towns or remote areas. They collect mail-bags from the mail motor and dispatch the same to the customers.
Sorting Assistants work in shifts like 6 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 10 pm and 6 pm to 6 am. The latter shift has 12 hours in it. If you take the night shift you will have to work every alternative night.
After 6 pm, each hour is calculated as 1 hour 20 minutes. So, 6 hours, from 6 pm to 12 midnight is equal to 8 hours and 12 midnight to 6 am is another 8 hours. So, in a night shift, your work profile is credited with 16 hours of work.

2. PASBCO (Postal Assistant in Savings Bank Control Organization)
In this post, work will be related to monitoring the Saving Bank Account and the postings will only be in the Head Post Offices, operating in the Circle.
3. PACO/RO (Postal Assistant in Circle/Regional Offices)
Nature of work will be handling the files. PAs do not deal directly with the customers.
The benefit of being a PACO/ RO is that the working days are only 5 in a week (Monday to Friday).
4. PARLO (Postal Assistant in Returned Letter Offices)
In this post, the candidates have to locate the correct address of the addressee, and if located, they have to forward the mail to the addressee.
5. PAMMS (Postal Assistant in Mail Motor Services)
They play an important role in the intra-city transmission of mail between Mail Offices and Post Offices.
6. PAFPO (Postal Assistant in Foreign Post Organization)
Deals with the foreign articles transmitted through Post Office Network.
7. SARMS (Sorting Assistant in Railway Mail Service)
The work is related to sorting of mails being sent through the Post Office Network.
