As you all know that during the interval of 5 years, Our Nation conducts the Presidential & Vice-Presidential Elections across the country. After the election of Mr. Ram Nath Kovind as President of India, we had the Vice-Presidential Elections on 5th August 2017.

 

As per the vice-presidential election rules, the one who bags up the majority votes from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Members is honorably declared as the next Vice President of India.

 

In the 2017 Elections that were held on 5th August, India had its 13th President of India i.e. M Venkaiah Naidu (Opponent Member - Gopalkrishna Gandhi). Naidu had won by 255 Votes (Got 516 Votes out of 771).

 

To express his feelings over this success, he spoke up a few lines on the Election day –

 

“Coming from an agricultural background, I never imagined I would be here. Agriculture has no proper voice in Indian polity.

I am very humbled. I am also thankful to the Prime Minister and all-party leaders for their support. I will seek to utilize the vice-presidential institution to strengthen the hands of the President and secondly, uphold the dignity of the Upper House.”

 

 

 

 

 

An Interesting Fact about Indian Vice-Presidential Elections:

 

India has had 15 Vice Presidential Election till yet but there are only 13 persons who were elected as the VP of India. The reason behind this is that the 1st Vice President of India ‘Mr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’ and 12th Vice President of India ‘Mohammad Hamid Ansari’ had been the winner of two consecutive presidential elections that were held in 1952-1957 and 2007-2012 respectively.
