 1. Maharashtra becomes the first state to issue land document online


After issuing a crucial land ownership document online and accept a digital signature on it, Maharashtra has become the first state to use online platform for land documents.


 The facility was inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis.


 Maharashtra generated eight lakh documents with space for digital signatures.




2. Swachh Bharat Summer Internship was Launched under Swachh Bharat Mission


The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) in association with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has launched the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship program for each individual to devote at least 100 hours to Swachhata through the year.


 The aim of the program was to engage millions of youngsters across the country, to encourage them to contribute to the Swachh Bharat.


 Candidates who complete at least 100 hours of sanitation-related work in villages would be given a Swachh Bharat certificate under this internship.


 The top performers would receive awards at the College and University / District, State and National Level.




3. 14 Cities of world’s 15 most polluted cities are from India- WHO Report


According to WHO global air pollution report, 14 out of the 15 most polluted cities in the world are Indian cities, with the worst being Kanpur.


 Kanpur topped the list followed by Faridabad, Varanasi and Ali Subah Al Salem (Kuwait) ranked 15th.


 The next 13 cities are Delhi, Varanasi, Kanpur, Faridabad, Gaya, Patna, Agra, Muzaffarpur, Srinagar, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Patiala and Jodhpur.




4. Biggest Airport to be developed in Mopa, Goa after Mumbai


One of the biggest airports is going to be constructed in Mopa, Goa after the Mumbai.


 The four coastal states in the western part of the country, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa, will benefit greatly from the biggest airport, to be constructed in Mopa.


 A joint team of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Commerce Logistics Department will visit Goa to facilitate the development of cargo hubs at the new airport.




5. Cabinet has given its approval for continuation of various Government Schemes


The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval for following government schemes:


 Extending the investment limit from INR 7.5 lakhs to INR 15 lakhs as well as an extension of time limits for subscription from 4th May 2018 to 31st March 2020 under the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY) as a part of Government’s commitment for financial inclusion and social security.


 Approved plan to set up 20 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country and upgrade 73 medical colleges.


 Continuation of  Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) beyond 12th Five Year Plan for a period 2017-18 to 2019-20 with a financial outlay of INR 14,832 crores.


 Approved the Umbrella Scheme, “Green Revolution – Krishonnati Yojana” in agriculture sector beyond 12th Five Year Plan for the period from 2017-18 to 2019-20 with the Central Share of INR 33,269.976 crore.


 Approved restructuring of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) by upgradation, creation and abolition of certain posts of Joint Secretary-level and above.




6. GST Council has constituted Two Group of Ministers


Two Group of Ministers (GoMs) have been constituted in the 27th GST Council meeting held on 4th May. Both the GoMs will submit their reports within a period of 15 days.


 The first GoM will look out the issues relating to ‘Incentivizing digital payments in the GST regime’. Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy Chief Minister, Bihar is the convenor of this GoM.


 The Second GoM will handle issues relating to ‘Imposition of Cess on Sugar under GST’. Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Finance Minister of Assam is the convenor of this GoM.




7. Awards for Beautification of Station Premises


The Ministry of Railways has announced various awards for stations where beautification has been done with the participation of local artists to promote cleanliness with creativity across all Zonal Railways.


 The first prize is given to Balharshah and Chandrapur stations (Nagpur Division) of Central Railway for depicting the best art & refurbishing itself as the most beautiful station across Indian Railways.


 Madhubani Railway station (Samastipur Division) of East Central Railway in Bihar has been declared the second best along with Madurai Railway Station (Southern Railway).


 The Third Prize Winning Stations are Kota Station (West Central Railway), Gandhidham Station (Western Railway) & Secunderabad Station (South Central Railway).




8. GOBAR-DHAN Scheme Launched to Promote Wealth and Energy from Waste


The Union Minister of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Uma Bharti has launched GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources) – DHAN scheme at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Karnal under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).


 The GOBAR-DHAN Scheme aims to positively impact village cleanliness and generate wealth and energy from cattle and organic waste.


 It also aims at creating new rural livelihood opportunities and enhancing income for farmers and other rural people.




9. CCEA renames Multi-sectoral Development Program as Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK)


The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved proposal for renaming and restructuring of Multi-sectoral Development Program (MsDP) as Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) during the remaining period of the 14th Finance Commission.


 PMJVK aims to address development deficits in identified minority concentration areas.




10. SWAYAM: Government notifies 75 National Resource Centers for Higher Education faculty


Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched an initiative of online professional development of 1.5 million higher education faculty using Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform ‘SWAYAM’.


 Under this program, all in-service teachers will get the opportunity to keep abreast of latest developments in their disciplines through a technology-based online refresher course.


 Under its first phase of implementation, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centers (NRCs) have been identified.




11. South Western Command’s Exercise Vijay Prahar


South Western Command is conducting an exercise VIJAY PRAHAR including more than 20000 troops in the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges close to Suratgarh in Rajasthan.


 The exercise is aimed to compose wide spectrum of threats which are planned to be tackled through high tempo joint air and land operation.


 The month-long exercise is essential to practice the troops in penetrative manoeuvres across the obstacle-ridden terrain under a nuclear umbrella.

1. International Buddhist Conference conducted in Lumbini


International Buddhist Conference concluded on the occasion of 2562nd Buddha Jayanti celebrations in Lumbini, Nepal, which is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha.


 The objective of the conference was to publicize teachings of Gautam Buddha and spread the messages of nonviolence, brotherhood, co-existence, love and peace to the international community.




2. India-China Informal Summit to discuss issues of bilateral and global importance


Indian PM Narendra Modi and President of China Mr. Xi Jinping joined their first Informal Summit in Wuhan to elaborate their respective visions and priorities for national development in the context of the current and future international situation.


 The aim of the summit is to exchange views on main issues of bilateral and global importance.




3. Nobel prize in literature 2018 cancelled


The Swedish Academy has canceled Nobel Prize for literature this year for the first time since 1949, after sexual assault scandal.


 The step is taken after the allegation on an academy member of a jury and author.




4. Special 301 Report: USTR again places India Priority Watch List


The Office of United States Trade Representative (USTR) has once again placed India on ‘Priority Watch List’ in its annual Special 301 Report on the state of intellectual property protection.


 In 2018 Special 301 Report, the USTR has placed 12 countries on its Priority Watch List.


 Other countries on list are Algeria, Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Russia, Ukraine, and Venezuela.




5. Peace Mission: India, Pakistan to participate together in SCO counter-terror exercise


India and Pakistan are taking part in Peace Mission, a multi-nation counter-terror exercise together for the first time in Russia.


 The military exercise is going to take place under the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

1. Maharashtra Government has signed an MoU with British Council


The Government of Maharashtra has signed an MoU with the British Council to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation between the two nations.


 Under this agreement, British Council would be training 30,000 teachers in the English language in the state which will be funded by Tata Trusts, the Tata group’s philanthropic organization.




2. GAIL has signed INR 2,000-cr Loan Agreement with SBI


GAIL (India) Limited and State Bank of India have signed a Loan Agreement of INR 2,000 crores for a tenure of 15 years.


 The purpose of the loan is for the general capital expenditure of GAIL, mainly in the gas pipeline projects, in the upcoming years.




3. NITI Aayog to Work in partnership with IBM to develop Precision Agriculture


NITI Aayog and IBM signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to develop a crop yield prediction model using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide real-time advisory to farmers in Aspirational Districts.


 The SoI was signed in the presence of Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and Shri Karan Bajwa, MD, IBM India.


 The partnership aims to work together towards the use of technology to provide insights to farmers to improve crop productivity, soil yield, control agricultural inputs with the overarching goal of improving farmers’ incomes.




4. Dalmia Bharat Group adopts Red Fort


Dalmia Group has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Tourism to adopt the iconic Mughal-era monument Red Fort for the next five years at a cost of INR 25 crore.


 As per the agreement, the corporate giant would build basic infrastructure around the monument and maintain it.

1. Core Sector Growth Slows to 4.1% in March 2018


Core Sector Growth in March 2018 slowed to 4.1%, a three-month low due to weak performance in six sectors, according to the index of eight core industries released by Ministry of Commerce and Industry.


 These sectors are coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, steel and


 The growth was 4.8% in the previous fiscal. The previous low was 3.8% in December 2017.




2. Manufacturing growth improves slightly in April 2018: PMI


The Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 51.6 in April 2018 form from 51 in March 2018.


 This growth indicates faster improvement in the health of India’s manufacturing economy than in a prior month.



 PMI is an indicator of the economic health and investor sentiments about the manufacturing sector.




3. HDFC Bank launched Interactive Humanoid IRA 2.0 in Bengaluru


HDFC Bank has unveiled Interactive Robotic Assistant (IRA) 2.0 at its Koramangala Branch in Bengaluru, Karnataka.


 The interactive humanoid Robot aims to enhance user experience for customers visiting in this branch.


 It can interact with customers, answer their bank-related queries, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and also guide them inside the branch with voice-based navigation.

1. EPFO Introduces ‘View Pension Passbook’ Service through Umang App


Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a new service through ‘UMANG app’ for pensioners to access the pension passbook.

2. InSight: NASA’s first mission to study deep interior of Mars


NASA has launched its first-ever mission InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) to study the deep interior of Mars.


 InSight is stationary lander to place seismometer a device that measures quakes on the soil of another planet.




3. Global Warming Driving Harmful Algae Growth


According to Scientists, global warming is driving the proliferation of Noctiluca algae (commonly known as sea tinkle), harmful algae in the Arabian Sea responsible for glowing of Mumbai’s beaches in dark.


 The study was jointly conducted by researchers from Indian National Centre for Ocean Information (INCOIS), a Ministry of Earth Sciences body and US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).


 Noctiluca algae are a parasite and occur in patches or blooms in the northern Arabian Sea.


 It has bioluminescence characteristic i.e. glow in dark and has earned the name ‘sea sparkle’.




4. China launches communication satellite APSTAR-6C


China successfully launched ‘APSTAR-6C’, a new communication satellite into orbit from Xichang Satellite Launch Center.


 The satellite will provide TV transmission, Internet, communication and multimedia services to customers across Asia-Pacific region. provide high-power transponder services for video distribution, broadband internet access, and cellular backhaul.
