Eligibility for JNU Entrance Exam 2015

JNU ELIGIBILTY

JNU PG Entrance Exam is the exam conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University to take admission in various PG Courses offered by the university. To appear in exam, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria decided by the university authority.

The eligibility criteria are different for every PG course, which specifies the past qualifications, percentage and other criteria. The Candidates who wish to appear in exam may satisfy all the required criteria decided by their chosen PG course.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Entrance Exam is as follows-

 

1. School of International Studies

MPhil / PhD
  1. For Centre for International Politics, Organization and Disarmament, South Asian Studies, Indo-Pacific Studies and Inner Asian Studies :

Candidate must have passed Master’s degree in following fields with at least 50 % marks-

  • Political Science
  • History
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • Sociology
  • Defense Strategic Studies
  • International Relations and
  • Area Studies

Or

Candidate must have Master’s degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with at least 60% marks.

Or

Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 65% marks.

  1. For Centre for International Legal-

Candidate must have completed Bachelor’s degree and LL.B. (Three Year) degree or LL.B. (five year) degree with at least 55% marks.

Or

Candidate must have completed an M.A. Course with International Law with at least 55% aggregate marks.

Or

Candidate should have LL.M. degree passed with at least 50% aggregate marks.

  • For Centre for International Trade & Development:

Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Economics with at least 50% marks and also they must have knowledge about Mathematics and Statistics.

  1. For Canadian and Latin American Studies:

Candidate must have a Master’s degree with at least 50% marks in-

  • Political Science
  • History
  • Economics
  • Sociology
  • Defense/Strategic Studies
  • International Relations and other allied subject in Social Sciences and Humanities

Or

Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 60% marks.

  1. For US Studies:

Candidates must have passed master’s degree with at least 50% marks in-

  • Political Science
  • History
  • Economics
  • Sociology
  • Defense/Strategic Studies
  • International Relations
  1. For All other Centers-

Candidate’s Master’s degree is required in Political Science, History, Economics, International Relations and Area Studies with at least 50% marks or Master’s degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with at least 60% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 65% marks.

M.A.
  1. In POLITICS (with specialization in International Relations)-

To do M.A. in Politics candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.

  1. In ECONOMICS (with specialization in World Economy)-

For taking admission in M.A. Economics candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks in aggregate in the following subjects-

  • Economics (Honors) with Mathematics as subsidiary subject
  • Mathematics (Honors) with Economics as a subsidiary subject.

Or

  • Statistics (Honors) with Mathematics & Economics as subsidiary subjects.

2. School of LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE STUDIES

MPhil / PhD
  1. In Languages-

For MPhil / PhD in languages other than English Linguistic and Hindi Translation the basic requirement is a Master’s degree in the concerned language/subject with at least 50% marks.

  1. In English-

 

The candidates who wish to do MPhil / PhD from JNU must have a Master’s Degree in English / Linguistics / Sociology / History / Political Science / Philosophy / Folklore / Film & Communication Studies / Culture Studies / Comparative Literature with at least 55% marks.

 

  • In Linguistic-

 

Master’s Degree in Linguistics or any other discipline with at-least 50% marks.

 

  1. In Hindi Translation-

 

The candidates should have a Master’s degree in Hindi /Hindi Translation with 50% marks and Master’s degree in any Indian/ Foreign language with 50% marks.

 

  1. In PORTUGUESE-

Master’s degree in Portuguese with at least 50% marks.

Or

Master’s degree in any other Roman Language (Italian, Spanish, French and Romanian) or in English with at-least 50% marks.

And

An Advanced Diploma in Portuguese with at-least 50% marks.

M.A.(In ARABIC, CHINESE, FRENCH, GERMAN, JAPANESE, KOREAN, PERSIAN, RUSSIAN AND SPANISH)
  1. In English and Linguistics-

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline 10+2+3 pattern of education with at-least 50% marks.

  1. Other than English and Linguistics-

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at-least 45% marks with adequate proficiency in the concerned language.

3.  School of Social Sciences

MPhil / PhD

Master’s degree in the subject concerned with at least 50% marks.

Or

Master’s degree in allied subjects or Humanities with at least 55% marks.

Or

Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 60% marks.

  1. For Centre for Studies in Science Policy-

Candidates must have Master’s degree in Social Science / Humanities / Law / Management with 55% marks.

Or

Master’s degree in Natural Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Medicine with 60% marks.

  1. For Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health-

The candidate applying for JNU Entrance Exam for MPhil course must have a Master’s degree in social sciences or other disciplines allied to public health with 50% marks.

  • For Centre for Women’s Studies-

The candidate will be eligible only if he/she has a Master’s degree in Social Science or Humanities or Law with at-least 50% marks.

MPH / PhD
  1. As per the eligibility criteria candidates applying for MPH must have MBBS degree with at least 50% marks.
  1. And at least one year’s work experience after internship or M.Sc. degree in Nursing with 50% marks

 

And at least one year’s experience in Community Health Nursing.

M.A.
  1. In History, Geography and Sociology-

Required: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.

  1. In Economics-
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at-least 50% marks.
  • And Knowledge of Mathematics at 10+2 level is expected and will be tested for in the Entrance Examination.
  • In Political Science-

Political Science in M.A. candidates are required with Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at-least 50% marks.

  1. In Philosophy-

Candidates are required with Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks in Social Sciences and Humanities and 55% marks in Science & Technology disciplines.

4. School of Life Sciences

MPhil / PhD

Candidates should have passed M.Sc. or equivalent degree with at-least 55% marks or equivalent grades in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics or Physical Sciences, as well as to those with M.B.B.S or M. Tech. or M.Sc. (Agriculture) or M. Sc. (Veterinary Sciences) degree with 55% marks.

M.Sc.- (An integrated interdisciplinary program in Modern Biology)

M.Sc. in Life Sciences Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s Degree (B. Sc. or B Tech or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.

5. School of Environmental Science

MPhil / PhD-

Candidates are required with M.Sc. degree or equivalent in any branch of basic or applied science or MBBS or B.Tech. /B.E. with minimum 55% marks.

M.Sc.

M.Sc. in Environmental Science Aspirants should have passed a Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks in any branch of basic or applied science under 10+2+3 pattern of education.

6. School of Computer and System Sciences

MPhil / PhD & M-Tech PhD

Master’s degree is required in Computer Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Operational Research / in any branch of Science with at least 55% marks.

Or

Bachelor’s degree is required in any branch of Engineering /Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks.

M.C.A.

Bachelor’s degree is required with at- least 55% marks in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education.

7. School of Physical Sciences

Pre PhD / PhD

  1. For Physical Sciences-

For doing Pre PhD / PhD in Physical Science, candidates are eligible only if they have passed M.Sc. degree with 55% marks in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics.

  1. For Chemical Sciences-

For doing Pre PhD / PhD in Chemical Science, candidates are eligible only if they have passed M.Sc. degree with at least 55% marks in Chemistry.

Candidates majoring in Chemistry should have specialization in Analytical / Organic / Inorganic / Physical Chemistry / Chemical Physics / Polymer Chemistry at the Master’s level.

  • For Mathematical Sciences-

For doing Pre PhD / PhD in Mathematical Science, candidates are eligible only if they have passed M.Sc. degree in Mathematics, with at least 55% marks.

M.Sc.

Candidates having Bachelor’s degree (with Physics as one of the subjects) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined), or in Physics Honors are eligible.

8. School of Arts and Aesthetics

MPhil / PhD

The School offers MPhil /PhD program in three different streams –

  1. Visual Studies
  2. Theatre and Performance Studies.
  3. Cinema Studies.

Note- Admission to the MPhil /PhD is through a separate entrance examination for each discipline followed by a viva-voce.

Students with Master’s degree passed within 50% marks in any discipline are eligible for MPhil program of Arts and Aesthetics.

M.A.

For M.A. program in Arts and Aesthetics, candidate should have passed Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.

9. School of Computational and Integrative Sciences

Pre PhD / PhD

The candidates are eligible if they have passed below degree with at least 55% marks –

  1. Master’s Degree in any branch of Sciences such as Biology / Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics / Statistics / Computer Science / MCA.
  2. MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI.
  3. B-Tech, B-Pharma degree or equivalent, B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering.
M-Tech

The candidates are eligible if they have passed below degree with at least 55% marks –

  1. Master’s Degree in any branch of Sciences including Biological / Chemical / Mathematical / Physical / Statistics / Computer Sciences / MCA.
  2. MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI.
  3. B-Tech, B-Pharma degree or equivalent, B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering.

10. School of Bio-Technology

Pre PhD / PhD

To take admission in Bio-Technology, Eligibility requirement is as follows-

Candidates are required with at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree in

  1. Biotechnology
  2. Biochemical Engineering.
  3. Biochemistry.
  4. Chemistry.
  5. Physics.
  6. Mathematics.

Or

Any branch of Physical or Biological or Engineering Sciences or B-Tech (Biotechnology/Bioengineering/allied qualifications).

11. Centre for Sanskrit Studies

MPhil / PhD

Master’s degree in Sanskrit or in an allied subject with at least 55% marks.

M.A.

Bachelor’s Degree in Sanskrit or in any other subject under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.

12. Centre for Molecular Studies

Pre PhD / PhD

Master’s degree or equivalent from recognized University/Institution in any branch of biological sciences / MBBS / BVSc. / B-Pharma with at least 55% marks.

13. Centre for the Study of Law and Governance

MPhil / PhD

Basic Requirement:

Master’s degree in Law, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy and cognate areas / disciplines with 55% marks.

Or

60% marks in any branch of natural science.
