About Man Booker International Prize
This award is given to author as well as translator. This award is sponsored by Man Group from 2005-2015 until it was given in 2 years for the appreciation international literary which are in English or translated into English.
Winners are awarded with £25,000, along with a newly designed trophy shared equally by Author and Translator.
About the winner: Han Kang
Han Kang is the first Korean Author to be awarded by Man Booker Award. She teaches creative writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Her writing talent has won Yi Sang Literary Prize, the Today’s Young Artist Award. He has also won Korean Literature Novel Award.
The Vegetarian is her first novel which is translated into English. Translation of “The Vegetarian” is done by Deborah Smith.
Her translations from Korean include Han Kang’s The Vegetarian and Human Acts, and Bae Suah’s The Essayist’s Desk and The Low Hills of Seoul.
“The Vegetarian” is a novel about modern day South Korea, but also a novel about shame, desire, and our faltering attempts to understand others.
